DIRECTIONS

1. Fill each bowl with water and a few drops of food coloring. Mix colors to create new ones (blue and red make purple, for example).

2. Take a coffee filter and fold it lengthwise two or three times. Then wrap it with rubber bands.

3. Holding the filter with the tongs, dip it in one bowl. Keep dipping till it’s saturated with colored water. Then lay it (still wrapped) on the newspaper to drip dry.

4. Repeat the process with another filter and another color.

5. When the dipped filters have dried for a few minutes, you can unwrap the rubber bands and spread the filters flat until they’re completely dry.

6. Take three dried, colored filters and place them one inside the other. Push a pipe cleaner through the pointed ends, letting about an inch come through the filters. The long end will become the stem. Secure the stem by twisting the paper around the pipe cleaner and wrapping it with a clean rubber band. Spread open the filter “petals” and bend the stem.
